Welcome
Welcome SEMLA members!
This year is our 40th anniversary! To honor this achievement, we will all gather in beautiful downtown Columbia at the University of South Carolina Thursday, October 14 through Saturday, October 16, 2010.
Early registration of $30.00 is due by September 14, 2010.
About Columbia
Columbia, the capital of and largest city in South Carolina, is located in the center of the state where the Broad and Saluda Rivers meet to form the Congaree. Since SEMLA last met here in 1997, the riverfront has seen the expansion of the Congaree River walk on both sides as a way to enjoy the city sights on foot. Not far away is Riverbanks Zoo, an attraction that draws people from throughout the Carolinas and Georgia. Besides these, Columbia offers numerous unique fine and casual dining restaurants, music clubs, sporting events, art, history, and children's museums, and the Statehouse, our iconic capitol building. Most of these diversions are minutes from our conference hotel, located in the Congaree Vista district, four blocks from the USC Music Library.
What to Expect
Thursday night’s activities will begin at 5:30 PM with registration and our opening reception in the USC School of Music, and will feature a selection of hors d’oeuvres and beverages, provided by Carolina Catering.
Friday evening's festivities will take place at the Hampton Street Vineyard six blocks from the conference hotel. They will begin with a cash bar featuring an impressive selection of wines and spirits at 6:00 PM, followed by a banquet at 7:00 PM, menu to be determined by the chef shortly before the event once the local produce availability is known. Menu selection options will be distributed in advance of the meeting via e-mail, and will include a vegetarian choice. The banquet cost will be set at $40.
We look forward to having you join us and experiencing our fair city! If you need any information in advance of your trip, please let us know – local arrangements chair Scott Phinney will be happy to hear from you!
"Music in Libraries: Just the Basics" one day workshop will be held on Thursday, October 14. More info...
