Parking

With a parking permit, you may park in the West Road parking garage on Loyola’s campus. The directions for driving are assuming that you will park in the West Road garage. Parking permits must be displayed on the dashboard of your car.

Parking permits will be mailed on Thursday, October 1st so your registration must be received by Wednesday, September 30th if you need parking permits to be mailed in advance.

If you do not receive parking permits in advance, please notify Laurie Phillips (phillips@loyno.edu) that you will need them when you arrive. They will be left for you at the front desk of the Monroe Library.

Travel to the conference:

By air:

The greater New Orleans area is served by the Louis Armstrong International Airport (MSY). The airport is actually located in Kenner, LA; expect the trip between the airport and your hotel to be 20-25 minutes (during non-rush hour times.) All of the information you need concerning taxis, shuttles, and other forms of ground transportation can be found here: http://www.flymsy.com/ (click on the "ground transportation" link in the left hand navigation bar.)

A taxi from the airport costs approximately $28 (plus tip). If you are interested in a cheaper option you may want to use the Airport Shuttle New Orleans, the official ground transportation for the New Orleans airport. The cost for shared van service for 1 person is $30 roundtrip and $15 one way (plus driver gratuity). Information about cost and reservations can be found on their website: http://www.airportshuttleneworleans.com/.

By car:

Directions to Loyola University, Monroe Library from the interstate:

From the east on I-10: Around the Superdome, be sure to follow the I-10 Baton Rouge signs to your right (i.e., do not exit to Claiborne Ave). Take I-10 to the Carrollton Exit. Follow the signs for South Carrollton off the exit and turn left at the light (across the canal). Merge right onto South Carollton Avenue. Take South Carrollton all the way to the Riverbend, about 2 miles (Shell station and daquiri shop on the right, La Madeleine on the left), and turn left onto St. Charles Ave. Take St. Charles past Broadway (the only light) to campus. Right before you get there, you’ll see Audubon Park on your right and the Tulane campus on your left. Turn left just after you pass the front of Tulane's main administration building, but right before Holy Name church onto West Road. The West Road parking garage is straight ahead and you will drive right into it and you may park anywhere in that garage. You may only use your parking permits in the West Road garage.

From the west: Take I-10 and get off at the Carrollton exit. After you’ve exited, stay to the left and when the exit ramp rises, take the left exit and merge onto South Carrollton Ave. (it’s not clearly marked). Take South Carrollton all the way to the Riverbend, about 2 miles (Shell station and daquiri shop on the right, La Madeleine on the left), and turn left onto St. Charles Ave. Turn left just after you pass the front of Tulane's main administration building, but right before Holy Name church onto West Road. The West Road parking garage is straight ahead and you will drive right into it. You may only use your parking permits in the West Road garage.

The library entrance is directly across the Peace Quad from the parking garage. It has a big tower in front.

From the Hampton Inn, St. Charles Ave. to Loyola University, Monroe Library:

By streetcar: The streetcar runs on St. Charles Ave. right in front of the hotel. Make sure you’re heading uptown (on the far side of the median/neutral ground from the hotel). The streetcar costs $1.25 (cash/correct change only). It is not air conditioned (but is fairly cool from the breeze with the windows open) and not particularly handicapped accessible. For more information on the streetcar, go to http://www.norta.com/.

When you get off the streetcar in front of Loyola University, walk to the right of the administration building (where the statue of Jesus is in the center of a horseshoe driveway), past the old library, and you’ll come to the little turnaround driveway. The library is the large building with a tower and stained glass to your right.

By car: Leaving the Hampton Inn parking lot, turn left toward St. Charles Ave. Turn left on St. Charles Ave. (watch out for streetcars!). Drive roughly 1.8 miles. The light at the corner of campus is Calhoun St. After that light, you’ll see Loyola’s Communications/Music bldg, then the horseshoe driveway and the administration building, then Holy Name of Jesus church. Turn right onto West Rd., right after Holy Name Church. The West Road parking garage is straight ahead. The library entrance is directly across the Peace Quad from the parking garage. It has a big tower in front.

From the Hampton Inn, Carondelet St, to Loyola University, Monroe Library:

By car: Drive down Carondelet to Canal St. and turn right. Go one block and turn right onto St. Charles Ave. Take St. Charles Ave. (there will be a roundabout at Lee Circle but go halfway around it to go straight) to 6363 St. Charles Ave. (the light at the corner of campus is Calhoun St.).

By streetcar: The first streetcar stop on the line is not far from your hotel, at St. Charles and Common. At that point, it is only heading uptown. The streetcar costs $1.25 (cash/correct change only). It is not air conditioned (but is fairly cool from the breeze with the windows open) and not particularly handicapped accessible. For more information on the streetcar, go to http://www.norta.com/.

To dinner from the Hampton Inn, St. Charles Ave.:

Dinner is at the Palace Café, 605 Canal St. We would not recommend driving to dinner. It is much more convenient to take the streetcar then to park in the French Quarter.

By streetcar: The streetcar runs on St. Charles Ave. right in front of the hotel. Make sure you’re heading downtown (the tracks on the same side of the neutral ground/median as the hotel). The streetcar costs $1.25 (cash/correct change only). It is not air conditioned (but is fairly cool from the breeze with the windows open) and not particularly handicapped accessible. For more information on the streetcar, go to http://www.norta.com/. Take the streetcar to Canal St. (the end of the line), cross the street, and walk down Canal. The restaurant is on the opposite side of Canal St. between Royal and Chartres (on the French Quarter side – that’s between St. Charles and Camp on the other side of Canal St.)

By car: The Palace Café offers discounted parking at the Marriott next door. From the hotel, turn right onto St. Charles Ave. Travel down St. Charles to Lee Circle. Enter the roundabout and turn right onto Andrew Higgins Drive (get into the left lane immediately). Turn left onto Camp St. When you get to Canal St., the Marriott is straight ahead across Canal on the right side of Chartres.

To dinner from the Hampton Inn, Carondelet St.:

The Palace Café is within easy walking distance of the hotel. Walk down Carondelet to Canal, cross the street and walk toward the river. The Palace Café is at 605 Canal St., between Royal and Chartres.

For GPS and Mapquest purposes, the university address is 6363 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, LA, 70118, but the library is at the corner of Loyola St. and Calhoun St., just a half-block or so from that address.
