Travel Information
Parking
With
a parking permit, you may park in the West Road parking garage
on Loyola’s
campus. The directions for driving are assuming that you will
park in the West Road garage. Parking permits must be displayed
on the dashboard of your car.
Parking permits will be mailed
on Thursday, October 1st so your registration must be received
by Wednesday, September 30th if you need parking permits to
be mailed in advance.
If you do not receive parking permits
in advance, please notify Laurie Phillips (phillips@loyno.edu)
that you will need them when you arrive. They will be left
for you at the front desk of the Monroe Library.
Travel to
the conference:
By air:
The greater New Orleans area is served
by the Louis Armstrong International Airport (MSY). The airport
is actually located in Kenner, LA; expect the trip between
the airport and your hotel to be 20-25 minutes (during non-rush
hour times.) All of the information you need concerning taxis,
shuttles, and other forms of ground transportation can be found
here: http://www.flymsy.com/ (click on the "ground transportation" link
in the left hand navigation bar.)
A taxi from the airport costs
approximately $28 (plus tip). If you are interested in a cheaper
option you may want to use the Airport Shuttle New Orleans,
the official ground transportation for the New Orleans airport.
The cost for shared van service for 1 person is $30 roundtrip
and $15 one way (plus driver gratuity). Information about cost
and reservations can be found on their website: http://www.airportshuttleneworleans.com/.

from the breeze with the windows open) and not particularly
handicapped accessible. For more information on the streetcar,
go to http://www.norta.com/.
When you get off the streetcar
in front of Loyola University, walk to the right of the administration

little turnaround driveway. The library is the large building

To dinner from the Hampton Inn,
St. Charles Ave.:
Dinner is at the Palace
Café, 605
Canal St. We would not recommend driving to dinner. It is much
more convenient to take the streetcar then to park in the French
Quarter.
By streetcar: The streetcar runs on St. Charles
Ave. right in front of the hotel. Make sure you’re heading
downtown (the tracks on the same side of the neutral ground/median
as the hotel). The streetcar costs $1.25 (cash/correct change
only). It is not air conditioned (but is fairly cool from the
breeze with the windows open) and not particularly handicapped
accessible. For more information on the streetcar, go to http://www.norta.com/.
Take the streetcar to Canal St. (the end of the line), cross
the street, and walk down Canal. The restaurant is on the opposite
side of Canal St. between Royal and Chartres (on the French
Quarter side – that’s between St. Charles and Camp
on the other side of Canal St.)
By car: The Palace Café offers
discounted parking at the Marriott next door. From the hotel,
turn right onto St. Charles Ave. Travel down St. Charles to
Lee Circle. Enter the roundabout and turn right onto Andrew
Higgins Drive (get into the left lane immediately). Turn left
onto Camp St. When you get to Canal St., the Marriott is straight
ahead across Canal on the right side of Chartres.
To dinner
from the Hampton Inn, Carondelet St.:
The Palace Café is
within easy walking distance of the hotel. Walk down Carondelet
to Canal, cross the street and walk toward the river. The Palace
Café is at 605 Canal St., between Royal and Chartres.
For GPS and Mapquest purposes, the university address
is 6363 St. Charles Ave., New Orleans, LA, 70118, but the library
is at the corner of Loyola St. and Calhoun St., just a half-block
or so from that address. |
