Welcome to the 2016 Annual Meeting in Durham, NC!

Duke University is host this year to the 44th annual SEMLA meeting and we look forward to welcoming SEMLA members, friends, and sponsors to the vibrant city of Durham, North Carolina!

Duke University's Perkins Library.

Warm thanks are due to our sponsors Theodore Front Musical Literature for their generous support of our banquet this year, and to Naxos and ArkivMusic for their much appreciated sponsorship of our breaks. We would also like to thank Duke University Libraries for the significant support they have provided for this conference.

Conference sessions will take place on Duke's West Campus in the newly renovated David M. Rubenstein Rare Book & Manuscript Library , where we will also feature an exhibit of archival and rare American music collections with special focus on the music of North Carolina. The opening reception and registration on Thursday evening will be at the Biddle Music Building on Duke's East Campus and will include a tour of the Duke Music Library and the Duke University Musical Instrument Collections as well as the option to attend a performance of Schubert's Winterreise featuring the incomparable Ian Bostridge and Thomas Adès. The setting for the banquet this year is the beautiful atrium of Duke's Nasher Museum of Art, where conference attendees can explore Southern Accent, a special exhibition of contemporary Southern art and music, and enjoy a performance by the Duke New Music Ensemble.

October is a splendid time of the year in Durham to experience rich fall colors as well as generally mild temperatures and cool evenings. A range of excellent dining and shopping options may be found on 9th Street, adjacent to our conference hotel and Duke’s East Campus. Further exploration of Durham's thriving restaurant scene, shops, and museums is possible by car or a short hop on the free Bull City Connector, which stops near the conference hotel. You can also visit the website of the Durham Convention & Visitors Bureau to learn more about the city and its amenities.

Registration is $45 through September 18th for SEMLA members and $20 for students. After September 18th, regular registration will be $55 for members and $25 for students. Single day registration is $25. The fee for the Friday evening banquet is $45.
