Welcome to Tallahassee!

Due to incoming Hurricane Michael, this conference has officially been cancelled (as of 10/8/2018)

Welcome to Tallahassee for the SEMLA Annual Meeting!

Florida State University is thrilled to be hosting this year's meeting – the first in Tallahassee since 1980! We couldn't be happier to welcome you to our campus and to the College of Music. Most of our conference will take place on the east side of campus, in or around the music complex. The pre-conference workshops will be held in the Dirac Science Library while the rest of our presentations will take place in Dohnányi Recital Hall, conveniently located across from the Allen Music Library.

While you are here we are also looking forward to showing off all that FSU has to offer! Our opening reception will take place in our beautiful Heritage Museum, the former location of the library for the Florida State College for Women and, until 1956, FSU's Strozier Library. On Friday night we will get the FSU treatment at our banquet being held on an upper floor of our football stadium, offering awesome views of the field and the skyline of downtown.

If you aren't in a hurry to get back home, stick around on Saturday afternoon as we will take an excursion to Wakulla Springs! Join us on a boat ride around the springs where we may run into any number of alligators, turtles, manatees, deer, birds, and maybe even some jumping mullet fish. While on the boat tour you can also experience the scenery from several early movies filmed at the springs, including Tarzan’s New York Adventure, Creature from the Black Lagoon, and Return of the Creature, among others. Also on the property is the Wakulla Springs Lodge, built in 1937 by financier Edward Ball, which is open year round for guests.

We hope you can join us in Tallahassee for a weekend of inspiring presentations, reconnecting with colleagues, and tons of Florida fun!!
