Travel Information
By Air
Attendees traveling by air will fly into Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, approximately 60 miles from Tuscaloosa. Because shuttle options are few, inconvenient to arrange, and quite expensive, the local arrangements committee has arranged to provide transportation for those who need it between the Birmingham airport and our hotel in Tuscaloosa. If you will be needing transportation, please contact local arrangements chair Cynthia Miller (cfmiller@ua.edu) as soon as possible. In any case you must let us know if you need transportation by the time you register for the conference. There will be a check-off box on the registration form for this purpose. By Car
Tuscaloosa is easily accessible by car. Atlanta is approximately three hours away, as are Oxford and Jackson, Mississippi. Nashville, Memphis, Murfreesboro, and Carrolton are approximately four hours away; Knoxville and Athens approximately five. New Orleans and Tallahassee are approximately six hours away.

From the East
Take Highway 82 West until you come to the University Boulevard exit. Turn right off the exit, travel in the left lane, and bear to the left of the Exxon station onto Paul W. Bryant Drive. Go approximately 1/2 mile and the Hotel Capstone is on the right. The hotel is located across from the Coleman Coliseum and just before Regions Bank.
From the West
Take Highway 82 East until you come to the University Boulevard exit. Turn right off the exit, travel in the left lane, and bear to the left of the Exxon station onto Paul W. Bryant Drive. Go approximately 1/2 mile and the Hotel Capstone is on the right. The hotel is located across from the Coleman Coliseum and just before Regions Bank.
From the North
From Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport, take Interstate 59/Interstate 20 to Exit 73/McFarland Blvd. Turn right onto McFarland Blvd (Highway 82 West). Drive approximately 2 miles to the University Boulevard exit. Turn right off the exit, travel in the left lane, and bear to the left of the Exxon station onto Paul W. Bryant Drive. Go approximately 1/2 mile and the Hotel Capstone is on the right. The hotel is located across from the Coleman Coliseum and just before Regions Bank.
From the South
Take I-59/20 to exit 73/McFarland Blvd. Turn left on McFarland Blvd (Highway 82 West). Drive approximately 2 miles to the University Boulevard exit. Turn right off the exit, travel in the left lane, and bear to the left of the Exxon station onto Paul W. Bryant Drive. Go approximately 1/2 mile and the Hotel Capstone is on the right. The hotel is located across from the Coleman Coliseum and just before Regions Bank.
Parking Information
The hotel offers free parking, and it is highly recommended that you leave your car at the hotel during the day. Gorgas Library is a pleasant half-mile walk from our hotel (click here for a map and walking directions), and van transportation will be provided for those who need it. If you wish to drive to campus, visitor parking is available for $3 per day.
On the evening of our banquet, we will again provide van transportation, but parking near the restaurant should be quite easy, and you may wish to drive (We might also ask you to help by transporting some attendees who do not have cars.)
