Driving directions to the conference hotel
  • From RDU International airport and points east:

    Take the I-40 West (right) exit out of the airport toward Chapel Hill.
    Travel approximately 12 miles to exit #270.
    Take exit #270 (15 / 501 South towards Chapel Hill).
    *** Normally you would exit here, but the ramp is temporarily CLOSED, so continue on I40 to NC 86 (Exit 266) - about 4 miles. Cross over the highway and re-enter I40 Eastbound, returning to 15-501 (Exit 270).

    Turn right at the end of the off-ramp and go 1.8 miles south on 15 / 501.
    At road split, stay to left and continue for a quarter of a mile on 15 / 501.
    At next light, make a left onto Ephesus Church Road.
    (Landmarks: Owen's 501 Diner, Eastgate Shopping Center on your right).
    Make an immediate right into the Holiday Inn driveway.

    Alternate Directions:
    From the airport, take the I-40 West (right) exit out of the airport toward Chapel Hill.
    Travel approximately 9 miles to Exit 273 (Hwy54 Chapel Hill/Durham).
    Take 54 WEST toward Chapel Hill. You'll be on 54 for a little less than 3 miles.
    Go past the Best Western University Inn on your left, then a shopping center. Get in the RIGHT lane.
    At the overpass, turn RIGHT onto 15-501 NORTH toward Durham. 15-501 is also called Fordham Blvd here. You will be on it for 1.7 miles.
    Go through 3 traffic lights (wave at the new home of A Southern Season on your left).
    At the 4th light (Ephesus Church Rd.), turn RIGHT into the hotel.

  • Driving from the north:

    Take I-85 South through Durham.
    Veer left onto 15 / 501 split towards Chapel Hill (exit #174B).
    Cross over I-40 interchange.
    Continue south on 15 / 501 for 1.8 miles.
    At road split, stay to left and continue for a quarter of a mile on 15 / 501.
    At next light, make a left onto Ephesus Church Road.
    (Landmarks: Owen's 501 Diner, Eastgate Shopping Center on your right).
    Make an immediate right into the Holiday Inn driveway.

  • Driving from the south from I-95:

    From I-95, exit onto I-40 West to exit #270.
    Take exit #270 (15 / 501 South towards Chapel Hill).
     *** Normally you would exit here, but the ramp is temporarily CLOSED, so continue on I40 to NC 86 (Exit 266) - about 4 miles. Cross over the highway and re-enter I40 Eastbound, returning to 15-501 (Exit 270).

  • Driving from the south from I-85 and west from I-40/I-85:

    I-85 will merge with I-40 after Greensboro.
    Continue on I-40 East.
    Take exit #270 (15 / 501 South towards Chapel Hill).
    Go 1.8 miles south on 15 / 501.
    At road split, stay to left and continue for a quarter of a mile on 15 / 501.
    At next light, make a left onto Ephesus Church Road.
    (Landmarks: Owen's 501 Diner, Eastgate Shopping Center on your right).
    Make an immediate right into the Holiday Inn driveway.

    From the airport, take the I-40 West (right) exit out of the airport toward Chapel Hill.

***When returning home, ask Local Arrangements how to leave town via Airport Road, or you can take I40 EAST to NC 54 (Exit 273), cross over the highway and re-enter I40 Westbound. Sorry about that!

Directions from the hotel to Wilson Library
on the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill campus
  • Exit the hotel turning left onto Ephesus Church Rd.
    At light, turn left onto South 15/501 (also called Fordham Blvd.)
    Travel through 3 lights (about 1.7 miles) to the UNC-CH/Hwy 54 exit.
    Exit toward UNC and follow South Road up the hill .6 miles to the Visitor Parking lot on the right before the stop light.
    Continue walking up South Rd. past the Old Chapel Hill cemetery about ½ mile and turn right on brick sidewalk between Wilson Library and R.B. House Undergraduate Library to the side entrance to Wilson.

  • If you continue driving through the light at Country Club Road and South Rd., parking meters (3-hour max) are located along South Rd. next to the Old Chapel Hill cemetery.

    Continue walking up South Rd. and turn right on the brick sidewalk between Wilson Library and R.B. House Undergraduate Library to the side entrance to Wilson.

  • For the opening reception on Thursday (after 5pm),you can continue past the intersection of Country Club Rd. and South Rd. another .4 miles to Stadium Dr.
    Turn left into the Stadium Drive parking area and park.
    The back side of Wilson Library faces South Road. Cross South Road and head up the brick sidewalk between Wilson Library and R.B. House Undergraduate Library to the side entrance to Wilson.

 Directions from the hotel in Chapel Hill to the Duke East Campus
  • Exit the hotel turning left onto Ephesus Church Rd. Then get in the right lane.
  • Turn Right at the light onto US. 15-501 North for several miles to the right lane exit marked Duke Univ./Med Ctr. Do not take the straight road to 15-501 Business but bear to your right as 15-501 divides.
  • Continue on the bypass US 15-501 North to N.C. 147 (Durham Freeway) exit (#108B); you will bear to your right as you approach this intersection.
  • Take Durham Freeway South to the Swift Avenue exit (#14) on your right, marked East Campus; on the Freeway you will pass exits 15B and 15A, and then it is a very short distance to exit 14.
  • Take exit 14 and turn left onto Swift Ave.; proceed over the overpass and through a railroad crossing to W. Main St.
  • Proceed through the intersection at W. Main St.; at this point Swift Ave. has become Broad Street.
  • Proceed on Broad Street to the intersection of Broad and Markham Avenue; the East Campus, bordered by a stone wall, is now on your right as you drive along Broad.
  • Turn right on Markham Avenue and proceed a little more than a block to the parking lot of the Asbury Methodist Church, which will be on your left.
  • Turn left into the church parking lot. The Biddle Music Building, a low, pinkish brick building, is just across the street.
